BPEC Award Solar Photovoltaic Systems Course (Level 3)

This 5 day HETAS training course is ideal for those who are interested in becoming a HETAS registered installer, but who lack any previous experience to attend any of the courses on their own. The H001+ comprises of the following; H001, H003DS & H006, and allows you to register with HETAS for their competent person scheme (for each corresponding course.) The whole course comprises of two visits to our centre, the first is a 4 day visit, including H001 and H003 content, and the second visit is the 1 day H006 course, making up the five days. Payment must be made in full for the 5 days upon booking.

How is the course split?
H001+ Introduction to Solid Fuel (One Day):Â
The first day of the H001+ covers an introduction to solid fuel, and is for candidates with no previous experience.
Course Content:
- Types of solid fuels and the factors affecting fuel selection
- Fuel preparation, seasoning and storage
- Appliance types and operating principles
- Principles of safe combustion of solid fuels
- Industry rules, regulations and standards
- Identify and respond to unsafe situations
Assessment Method: Theory
Duration: 1 Day
Outcome: HETAS statement of results (progress to H003DS.)
H003DS (Dry Appliance Installation Defined Scope):Â
Following on from the above, this course is suitable for candidates who do not intend to progress to the H005 biomass training and assessment. However, successful completion does allow candidates to progress to the next step in this H001+ bundle, which is the H006.
Course Content:
- Solid Fuel and factors affecting fuel selection
- Fuel preparation, seasoning & storage
- Appliance types and operating principles
- Safe combustion of solid fuels
- Industry rules, regulations & standards
- Identifying & responding to unsafe situations
- Chimneys, flues & terminals
- Air supply & ventilation
- Installation of hearths & fireplaces
- Commissioning & handover of dry appliances
- Identification of faults & the correct use of terminals
- Service & maintenance of dry solid fuel appliances
Within the training, methods of connection to appliances and chimney systems are physically shown, discussed and demonstrated, awareness of structural components and limitations of works under the HETAS competent person scheme is discussed. How to correctly size and calculate room heat requirements and combustion air ventilation requirements for a dry room heater is also covered. Time will be spent in our workshop where the delegate will be given the opportunity to dismantle and rebuild wood/multifuel stoves, to identify and handle chimney systems and components. They will inspect and check an installation for compliance against building regulations. The delegate will also participate in undertaking a flue draught test, hot spillage test and a smoke draw test, which are all import aspects of the commissioning process of a solid fuel appliance.

H006 System Chimneys:
The final day of the H001+ is the H006, which is a 1 day course. We run this 1 day separately to the above. The date for H006 is flexible, please see H006 course for dates and just let us know which one suits you best.
Course Content:
- Chimneys, flues and terminals
- Installation, design and testing of twin-wall system chimneys which penetrate through a floor or ceiling
- Industry rules, regulations & standards
Assessment Method: Theory & Practical
Duration: 1 Day
Outcome: HETAS statement of results.
Successful candidates can register the competence of the installation of internal system chimneys.
H001+ outcome: Upon completing each individual course, you will be awarded with the relevant certification and be able to register for the HETAS competent Person Scheme (for each corresponding course on the H001+.)
