BPEC Low Temperature Hot Water Heating Systems is a 2 day course designed to develop knowledge and skills in the design of low temperature domestic heating systems. Whilst it is recommended as a progression route for those moving on to the BPEC suite of Heat Pump qualifications, it is also suitable for experienced operatives looking to expand their understanding of low temperature system design. Eligible candidates can take advantage of the grant funding and complete this course for just £50 + VAT.
This qualification does not recognise the holder as a competent installer of low temperature hot water and heating systems. However, it does confirm competence in the design of low temperature hot water and heating systems.
This unregulated qualification has been developed to enable plumbing and heating engineers to demonstrate competence in:
-
Understanding the importance of accurately calculating heat loss in dwellings when specifying and designing low temperature hot water heating systems
-
Designing low temperature heating systems for domestic properties using low-temperature and/or low-carbon heat sources
Course Outline
This course covers the key knowledge and principles required to design effective low temperature hot water heating systems, including:
- The requirements of relevant regulations, standards and guidance relating to domestic low temperature hot water heating systems and hot water supply
- How to calculate the heat loss from a dwelling for low temperature hot water heating design
- How to calculate the hot water requirements of a dwelling
- How to size and select heat emitters suitable for low temperature hot water heating systems
- How to correctly size low temperature hot water heating systems in dwellings
- How to design low temperature hot water heating systems for dwelling.
Entry Requirements
- Trainees should hold a minimum NVQ level 2/3 in plumbing or conventional heating engineering, or have demonstrable evidence of at least 3 years relevant experience.
Eligibility for available grant funding:
- Applicants must have successfully completed a BPEC Heat Pump course with us in Feb/March 2026 with grant the funding applied.
We will claim on your behalf if you meet this criteria.
