October is fast approaching and for electricians, now is the time to make sure your qualifications are in place.
Changes to the Electrotechnical Assessment Specification (EAS) will introduce updated qualification requirements for people undertaking, or responsible for, certain types of electrical work.
If you carry out periodic inspection and testing, including EICRs, or EV charging installations, it’s worth taking the time now to understand what the changes could mean for you and your business.
Inspection & Testing: Is Your Qualification Up to Date?
Periodic inspection and testing, including Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs), is an important part of the work carried out by many electricians.
From October, businesses undertaking this work will need to demonstrate that relevant QSs and employed persons hold an accepted qualification, alongside the required experience and ongoing CPD.
If you already carry out inspection and testing, or you’re looking to add EICRs to the services you offer, now is a good time to get your training in place.
EV Charging: What Do the Changes Mean for Electricians?
The UK’s transition towards electric vehicles continues to create opportunities for electrical contractors, with demand for qualified EV charging installers continuing to grow.
However, the updated EAS requirements also mean electricians need to make sure they have the appropriate qualifications for the work they undertake.
From October, QSs and employed persons undertaking, or responsible for, EV charging installations will need to hold an accepted Level 3 qualification relevant to the work they carry out.
