City & Guilds 2921-34 Level 3 Award in the Design and Installation of Domestic and Small Commercial Electric Vehicle Charging Installations. This 2-day course is designed for qualified electricians who want to learn about the technical requirements and practical considerations when installing Plug-In Electric Vehicle charging points.
This qualification replaces the C&G 2919 and includes further methods of protecting against open PEN conductor faults, how to assess if an installation has an issue with diverted neutral current, integration into prosumers electrical installations and reverse feeding into the installation or back to the grid.

Course Outline:
This 2-day course is designed for qualified electricians who want to learn about the technical requirements and practical considerations when installing Plug-In Electric Vehicle charging points.
Course Content:
- Introduction to electric vehicles and EV types
- Characteristics of electric vehicles
- Charging requirements and safety considerations
- Overview of electric vehicle charging systems
- Modes of EV charging, including requirements and restrictions
- Electrical installation requirements, including:
- Power supply and earthing arrangements
- Planning permission considerations
- Explosive/hazardous atmospheres
- Protection methods and devices
- Labelling and control requirements
- Risk assessment principles
- Protection against open PEN conductor faults
- Integration of EV charging into prosumer electrical installations
- Reverse power flow into the installation and back to the grid
- Inspection, testing and certification procedures
- Commissioning processes and DNO documentation requirements
- Risk assessments and pre- and post-installation checklists
- System testing, fault finding and inspection techniques
- Understanding of islanding mode operation
The course includes an online theory exam.
It equips installers with the skills and knowledge required to install both domestic and small commercial electric vehicle charge point systems.
Entry Requirements:Â
Learners must hold one of the following:
- City & Guilds Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment (Buildings, Structures and the Environment) (2357)
- City & Guilds Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Electrotechnical Services (Electrical Maintenance) (2357)
- City & Guilds Level 3 Electrotechnical qualification (5357)
- City & Guilds Level 3 NVQ in Electrotechnical Services Experienced Worker (2356)
- City & Guilds Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Qualification (2346)
- Placeholder for City & Guilds Level 3 Electrotechnical in Dwellings Experienced Worker Qualification (2347)
- Other Awarding Organisations equivalences will also be acceptable
- Equivalent historical qualifications (see EAS Table 4B/4C) EAS Qualifications guide August 2023 (theiet.org) or
- ECS Gold Card (for domestic electrician), JIB Electrician or Approved Electrician Card
Learning Materials: You will need to attend this course with an up to date copy of the IET Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation – 5th Edition & Latest BS7671 18th Edition Regs Book plus On Site Guide (these books are not included).
