The Data:

The demand for heat pump installers is at an all-time high, with a shortage of qualified individuals who can help the government (and manufacturers) meet their targets for net zero. In today’s blog, we explore this opportunity, particularly in relation to new builds (which we know are ideal for the systems.)

This blog examines the data released by Confused.com after their recent published market analysis, in which they found that less than 5% of new builds (4.53% to be precise) (Confused.com, n.d.) have air source heat pumps installed. This figure is even smaller for air & ground source systems, with just 0.39% of new builds having them, totaling 4.92% for both (Confused.com, n.d.) In addition to this revelation in installations in new builds, the study also revealed that there had been an uptake in the amount of installs seen overall, thus indicating an improvement in consumer consensus towards the technology as a replacement for the gas boiler.

The Rub:

After reading above, you may be sat thinking that the low adoption rate in new builds is a bad thing, however it is quite the opposite. The data demonstrates the lack of installers currently in operation in the UK, which has resulted in so little of the systems being installed. This is the rub, and where you come in. The UK government and manufacturers of the systems alike, are in desperate need of installers to meet their quotas for the installations of heat pumps. Therefore, you are much more likely to find work in the industry than if you was to venture into an existing and already saturated market.

Checking Back In On The Boiler Upgrade Scheme:

A few weeks ago, we published a blog centred around the boiler upgrade scheme, in which we discussed the high percentage of applications received for the scheme. Since then, the total of boiler scheme vouchers redeemed stands at 89% (D. M.
