Solar PV Growth is on Track
October 30, 2023Ofgem’s ‘Tough’ New Policy
November 21, 2023The industry seems to be exploding with new initiatives, proposals and grants at the moment, which reflects the government agenda to push the technology in hopes of achieving net zero, as we discussed in an earlier blog.) Today, we take a look at a new proposal, coming from the government advisory body, which looks to provide ‘more than 2 million households’ (PhamNews, 2023) a free heat pump.
The funding proposal:
The NIC (The National Infrastructure Commission) has identified the only ‘viable option’ for decarbonisation ‘at scale’ (PhamNews, 2023) to be the governments backing of electrification, and further investment into heat pumps. This ‘further investment’ is around £1.3 billion a year (until 2035) to cover the installation in lower income houses, and £1.9 billion for a ‘subsidy of £7000’ for those installing heat pumps (PhamNews, 2023.) In addition to these large figures, the NIC has argued that an extra £3.2 billion should go into improving energy efficiency and the installation of heat pumps in ‘public sectors’ and ‘social housing’ (PhamNews, 2023.)
This spending plan, has been introduced to aid the ‘governments 2035 climate targets.’ The report stated quite simply that “heat pumps are the solution (…) they are highly efficient, available now and being deployed rapidly” (PhamNews, 2023.) This spending plan, and its consequential impact on the number of heat pump installation, does have positive repercussion’s for the average household, as well as the environment. The forecasts points to a saving of £1000 per year mid-2030, ‘driven by the transition sway form solid fuels’ (PhamNews, 2023.)
What does this mean for the installer?
Well, in short, it means that in the next 10 years, the demand for heat pumps is set to sky rocket. It can be hard to look this far ahead, especially with the cost associated with heat pump training and MCS registration, but it really is the future, and with our £500 heat pump training voucher, it is a no brainer to get involved.
