Looking Back at 2023

January 4, 2024The new year brings with it new quotas from the government for boiler manufacturers, relating to the percentage of heat pump installations in relation to the manufacturers total boiler sales. This new quota is in a bid to “improve national energy security, contribute to our decarbonization objectives and keep pace with developments in other countries” (“Government to Press Ahead With Fines for Manufacturers,” 2023.) Therefore, the percentage of heat pump installations must be ‘equivalent to 4%’ in order to avoid a fine (“Government to Press Ahead With Fines for Manufacturers,” 2023.) This decision has been seen as controversial, and even unfair by some manufacturers, especially considering the financial challenge many businesses face in the current climate. Despite this, the government is set in enforcing this from January 2024, and therefore it is something manufacturers will have to comply with.
The new quotas however will have a positive impact on those who are involved in the installation of the technology, as a higher percentage will be installed in the UK as a percentage of boiler sales.
