Boiler Upgrade Scheme 2025: What Installers Need to Know + £500 Training Support
May 8, 2025In today’s blog, we look at what the latest drop in household energy prices means for the renewable sector, and why now remains an ideal time for installers to gain new qualifications.
In July 2025, energy regulator Ofgem is expected to announce a reduction in the energy price cap, with forecasts suggesting a fall of approximately 7%. This would bring the average annual bill for a typical household down to £1,720, a drop of £129 from the current figure of £1,849 (King, 2025). For many homeowners, this will feel like long-overdue relief following three consecutive periods of price increases. However, while falling energy prices may appear to lessen the urgency around renewable technologies, they in fact highlight the continued need for long-term, future-proof solutions.
Lower Bills Do Not Signal Lower Momentum
The energy cap may be falling, but the wholesale energy market remains volatile. The recent drop is driven largely by a dip in wholesale energy prices, rather than by permanent structural changes to the UK’s energy infrastructure. Policy pressures surrounding climate goals, and energy independence continue to shape the sector. For installers, this means the direction of travel remains the same: towards a lower-carbon, more decentralised energy system.
What’s more, falling energy bills may actually provide households with the headroom needed to make investments in long-term energy solutions. When monthly outgoings are lower, customers are more likely to consider upgrades such as heat pumps, solar panels, and battery storage, particularly when backed by existing government support and training incentives.
Installers Remain Central to the UK’s Net-Zero Journey
At GRE, we continue to see strong demand for qualified professionals in the renewable and electrical space. Heat pump installations remain a priority for government-backed schemes such as the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, while the rollout of solar PV and battery systems is accelerating across both domestic and commercial sectors.
This growth is matched by demand for training. Our heat pump courses, supported by £500 training vouchers, remain a popular entry point for plumbing and heating engineers looking to diversify. Solar PV and battery installer courses are also on the rise, reflecting a shift in consumer awareness and industry requirements. Meanwhile, our 2391 Inspection & Testing training continues to support electricians expanding their skillset.
With highly experienced trainers, learners at GRE gain hands-on experience in a practical, fully equipped environment. Our courses are not just about ticking boxes, they are about preparing professionals for real-world scenarios with real equipment.
Why Now Is Still the Right Time to Train
Falling energy prices may suggest otherwise, but they should not be seen as a reason to delay career development. The renewable sector continues to move forward, driven by climate legislation, grid evolution, and consumer demand. Installers who take advantage of stable conditions today will be better positioned to serve a growing market tomorrow.
GRE’s training programmes are built for those who want to stay ahead. With funding support, recognised qualifications from BPEC, City & Guilds and HETAS, and real-world rigs to train on, our learners are equipped not just to pass, but to lead.
