As we are sure you have noticed, there has been an uptake in the installation of heat pumps, and in the overall interest for the technology. This increase translates into the number of qualified heat pump installers that are being trained in the UK, and is demonstrated by the jump from just 3,000 installers in 2022 to just shy of 8,000 in 2023 (a 166% increase) (Mavrokefalidis, 2024.) The variety of government schemes and initiatives have played a huge role in this increase, one that is not likely to slow as the government races towards its clean energy targets.

Simply put, this means an increase in work for those who are qualified, with both domestic and commercial application for those who take action. It is imperative to put any reservation aside about heat pumps, as the evidence makes it clear, heat pumps are here to stay and there is no stopping the governments plans to reach their installation targets.

The model shows the way in which people adopt new innovations, with innovators and early adaptors having a high propensity to adopt new innovations, and late majority and laggards having a high propensity to resist (Summary of Roger’s Innovation Adoption Curve, n.d.) We strongly urge you to be the innovator/early adaptor of heat pumps, not the late majority or laggard. Those who embrace it sooner rather than later will profit the most.
