Update to Building Regulations
December 7, 2024Happy New Year from All of Us at GRE Energy Training!
January 5, 2025A Year in Review: The Rise of Renewable Technology in 2024
As we wrap up an incredible year for renewable technologies and GRE, we celebrate the progress made in green energy adoption, and look back at the year as a whole. The latest data from the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) highlights the growing momentum across various renewable technologies, underlining their importance in driving a sustainable future.
Heat Pumps:
Heat pumps continue to gain traction as an efficient and sustainable heating source. With 55,532 installations recorded in 2024.This is an increase of 15,108, which has been supported by a growing network of registered installers (2,045) and if we may say so ourselves, our specialist training.
This uptake has been evident at GRE throughout the year, with our poor Technical/Training Director being swept off his feet. Luckily, there’s very few people who match our enthusiasm for teaching. With a helpful hand from the £500 government training vouchers, it has been our pleasure assisting 100’s of you with passing your exams and taking the necessary steps to becoming MCS registered.
Solar PV:
Solar PV (pardon the pun) shine as the star performer this year, with 177,659 installations—a testament to their affordability, efficiency, and popularity amongst both consumers and installers alike. The technology is supported by 3,997 registered MCS installers, ensuring that more households and businesses can reduce their energy bills. If we haven’t already made it clear in our messaging, installers are the backbone of this achievement. As a training academy, we are committed to driving this number even further in 2025.
Battery Storage Systems
Battery storage systems also saw a significant uptake in 2024. With 18,701 installations in total (an increase of 13,736 from 2023) and 1,946 registered installers. The introduction and expansion of flexible energy tariffs from a variety of energy providers, will also bolster the technology in 2025. As we have referenced in previous blogs, we see the technology being at the forefront of the renewable revolution.
Total Impact:
The unified progress is beyond impressive: a total of 252,060 installations across heat pumps, solar PV, and battery storage systems in 2024 (as of the date of this publication.) This milestone underpins the growing commitment to clean energy and the evident steps being taken to reduce emissions and costs across the board.
As we reflect on these achievements, it’s clear that renewable technology is no longer a niche but a mainstream solution for a greener future. 2024 has set a high bar—but we look forward to assisting smash through the ceiling in the new year.
If you haven’t already, why not make your 2025 GREen and reap the rewards of becoming an installer of renewable energy.
