Celebrating 20 Years of Renewable Training!

October 1, 2024In today’s blog, we examine the implications of a shift in consumer attitudes towards heat pumps and other forms of renewable energy, and the positive impact this will have on the industry as a whole.
The Behavioural Insights Team, in collaboration with Nesta, have released a study on UK adults opinions on renewable energy (including heat pumps.) The study examined a group of 3,000 candidates, and subsequently found that nine out of ten did not oppose the implementation of renewable technology, and seven out of ten supported phasing out gas boilers by 2035 and replacing them with heat pumps.
The above is promising, and will encourage the government to push renewable heating through further schemes and funding for low income households. We urge the government however to be clear and transparent going forward, as it’s this ambiguity that has previously held back consumers and installers from supporting the renewable push.
Nesta have also previously carried out a heat pump satisfaction survey, in which ‘70% of respondents’ were either ‘very satisfied’ or ‘fairly satisfied’ with ‘eight out of ten attributes.’ The highest scoring of these related to safety (92%) reliability (85%) and hot water heating (89%.) From the above, we know that not only are people adopting the technology more openly, but those who do are (for the most part) satisfied.
The above is great news for the industry, as it encourages the government to further invest in the sector and look at new ways to roll out the technology, and increase the adoption of it. At GRE, we have already seen some of this with the introduction of the £500 heat pump training grant from the Net Zero Hub (which is government funded.) This allows heat pump training to be completed from just £165 + VAT.
As always, we are doing our bit to ensure there are enough qualified installers to meet the governments net zero targets.
